Jamii - Liani
Industry: Not-for-Profit Arts Organization
About: Swahili for “community” Jamii is an arts organization on a mission to bring Esplanadians closer together to form greater social cohesion through shared memories. Jamii also fosters leadership in young women through Laini, a Swahili word meaning “to flatten an area with the intent of making it accessible”.
Culture: shared experience, creative expression, equity among us
Roadblock: Young women who were struggling to dream and see themselves in the future. They were unable to access and activate their inner leader.
Results: Young women began to see their qualities as parts of themselves without judgment. They became more aware of their natural qualities, how to leverage them, and how those qualities might appear in stressful situations. By being aware, they are more able to feel in control of their actions and their futures.
“I just wanted to say thank you for the sessions. I really appreciate the perspective your classes gave me. I absorbed a deeper understanding of how others approach problem-solving which I know will lend itself well in the future in both my career and personal life! So thank you so much!”— VH
The Approach
Get Curious
In-person sessions combine experiential activities and visual art to create a collage board to represent their future selves.
Get Clear
Weekly gatherings with dedicated time to get to know yourself now. Imagine your future self. What qualities come easy for you, and what qualities you would like to work on more consciously to move into your future self?
Get Connected
Practices to celebrate yourself and your future self often. Tangible with real-life actions to take today using your natural qualities to bring your imagination to reality.
Self-awareness, leadership, communication and tangible working skills are valuable in all kinds of organizations. Boards, not-for-profit and youth groups can benefit enormously from engaging in personal and professional development. These skills will provide a return on investment that surpasses the bottom line often used as a measurement. Book some time with me if you would like to discuss how this would look for your organization.
